The United States Coast Guard plays an important role in protecting boaters, commercial fishing vessels, and recreational mariners along the Southern Oregon Coast.

Based in Charleston, Oregon, Coast Guard personnel help maintain safe waterways, provide search and rescue services, monitor hazardous bar conditions, and communicate important weather advisories and boating restrictions.

The Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team (ANT) Coos Bay, established in 1976, supports maritime navigation along approximately 240 miles of the Oregon Coast. Its responsibilities include maintaining buoys, navigation lights, day markers, and other aids that help vessels safely navigate coastal waterways.

The U.S. Coast Guard Air Station North Bend, established in 1974 and located at the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport, provides critical search and rescue services along the Southern Oregon Coast. Operating Coast Guard rescue helicopters, the station supports maritime emergency response, law enforcement, and environmental protection, helping safeguard commercial fishermen, recreational boaters, and coastal communities, including Bandon.

Weather & Bar Condition Updates

Before crossing the Coquille River Bar or heading out onto the Pacific Ocean, boaters should check current conditions and be aware of any restrictions.

• VHF Marine Radio Channel 22A: Bar condition reports are generally broadcast every three hours during normal operations, with more frequent updates during hazardous conditions.
